Event Report
With the blessings of Sant Baba Manmohan Singh Ji, Chancellor and able guidance of worthy Vice Chancellor Dr. Dharmjit Singh Parmar, University institute of Agriculture, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University and Gulmohar Eco Club, GPS Machaki Mal Singh, Faridkot Jointly organized 3-day Nature Camp Under Environment Education Program of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Govt. of India) from 8th April to 10th April 2024. The camp was organized under the patronage of Dr. J.K.Arora, Executive Director, Dr. K.S.Bath, Joint Director, Dr. Mandakini Thakur, project Scientist (All from Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, G.O.P.) and Chief Organizers Mr. Varinder Kumar of Gulmohar Eco Club and Dr. P. S. Tyagi, of Agriculture Department. It was supported by Dr. Shalu Vyas (Organizing Secretary), Dr. Vikrant (H.O.D.), Dr. Ajitpal Singh, Dr. Vijay Singh, Dr. Nalini, Ms. Kamaldeep Kaur and Mr. Ranbir Singh of Faridkot. The aim of the camp was spreading of awareness among students regarding importance and conservation of nature.
The Camp was inaugurated on April 8, 2024 by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Sir, along with Guest of Honour S. Hardaman Singh, secretary SBBSU. In the beginning all the participants took a pledge to save nature from further degradation, which was administered by Dr. Shalu. It was followed by inaugural address by organizers and chief guest. In technical session Mr. Varinder Kumar spoke about Nature, Biodiversity and achievements of the club, Dr. P. S. Tyagi gave an elaborate account of degradation of nature and efforts being made by various organizations to save it under the topic ‘Save Nature- Save Life’, Mr. Manik Kapoor from Khanna spoke on wild life with special focus on snakes in human habitats. Dr. Vikrant conducted the stage very effectively. In the evening session students were taken to botanical garden and agriculture fields in the campus to give them training for nature photography, leaf arrangement and flower arrangement. They were divided into different groups and given tasks for competition on nature topics. An exhibition of photographs of wild animals, wild plants and ornamental plants was also arranged for participants and all other students of university.
On second day of the camp the M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students visited “Nature Retreat Chohal”, “Takhni-Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary” and “Damsel Dam” in Hoshiarpur district to study Nature in the lap of Nature. At Chohal the participants of the camp tracked in wilderness of the forest to acquaint themselves about wild plants and wild life and listened curiously to the deliberations of experts Mr. Varinder Kumar, Dr. P. S. Tyagi and Mr. Manik Kapoor regarding forest flora and fauna, ecological balance, bio diversity and pub marks sample collection. Students collected samples of wild flora for making plant album, and also enjoyed boating in the lake. The students tracked through the forest area of Takhni-Rehmapur Wild Life Sanctuary and learned a lot about nature through on the spot observations and through the pictures displayed in the gallery of sanctuary. On the third day valedictory session was held in which the participants and resource persons were honored with appreciation certificates. The Guests were honoured with mementos by the Eco-club.
